Hockey portrait

Canes Camp 2015Some of you may know that I play some ball hockey. At my age, being able to say that is a bit of a bragging point. They say if you can’t sell your work to your friends, who can you sell it to? So as I was shooting a game at the rink, it occurred to me that several of our players sport tattoos and clearly have personality to spare. Why not do some portraits showcasing their ink?

Marc is a gun enthusiast who has a thing for the Punisher comic book hero. He recently had a nice sleeve tattoo done, and wanted to show it off. Who am I kidding, he always likes to show off. Once I posted a couple of these to Facebook, we got a nice response. The ladies really seemed to like this for some reason.

Doing a shoot is easy, and fairly quick. We did Marc’s session in about an hour. We worked in two backdrops, a wardrobe change and switched from goalie sticks to guns. If you would like to set something up, give me a call.

Canes Camp 2015

Canes Camp 2015We’ve been working with the Carolina Hurricanes for their summer hockey camp, or Canes Camp as it is called, for 12 years. The campers run drills all week, culminating in a big game on Friday which is called by none other than the Canes’ TV play-by-play guy, John Forslund. The campers learn a lot about the game, and if they are lucky, get to meet a few NHL players. Shane Willis, who spent a few years in the NHL with the Hurricanes and the Tampa Bay Lightning, runs the camp. Helping out on the ice is Robert Kron, the Hurricanes’ European scout, who played for the Canucks, Whalers/Hurricanes and Blue Jackets. Brent Selman, head coach at Duke, runs the skating classes and typically coaches the winning team at Friday’s big game.

The campers have been visited by several players in the past such as Rod Brind’Amour, Aaron Ward, Jesse Boulerice, Kevyn Adams, Cam Ward, Glen Wesley, Tom Barrasso and of course, NHL Hall of Famer and current team GM, Ron Francis. We always try to get a team photo with the players and campers often get autographs.

We shoot drills and games all week, and then cover the Big Friday Game. Viewing stations are available for families to see the photos of their campers throughout the week as well as the game action minutes after the game is complete. All photos, as usual, are available on our website within 24 hours of the final game. We are also available to shoot your team’s game. Contact us for pricing and to schedule your team!

Imp wrestling

Will Clark, Cary Wrestling
Those of you that know me, have heard me brag on my nephew Will Clark, who has won a ton of hardware in wrestling. He has been at it since he was five or six years old. His father, Ken, is a former All American at Campbell University. His mother Sandy is in the Cary High School Hall of Fame for her efforts in basketball and track. Will is a senior this year, and has been working up to the North Carolina State High School Championships this year, with a second consecutive state title as his goal. Nobody works harder at his craft than Will. He has only lost two matches through an illustrious high school career.

Cary Wrestling Team
His team at Cary has long been considered the team to beat around here winning twenty consecutive regional titles and thirty consecutive conference tournament titles. While they have struggled lately due to several injuries, they finished strong in their conference, and took five wrestlers to the state championship tournament, with two bringing home state titles.

I have been fortunate enough to follow along, with my camera of course, as the team sought to continue their success. Coach Taylor Cummings has been a huge help this season.
